The Man with the Golden Groove
Rommel Martinez is a dedicated teacher and active performer with many years of experience behind him. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, majoring in Percussion from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines and he has been mentored under the expert tutelage of renowned drummer Michael Alba.
Rommel has performed professionally as a member of the Shoreline Band and has collaborated with various artists, most notably Youtube sensation Jireh Lim in stage performances, and in various music tours and festivals around the Philippines. He has also performed in major events such as the YouTube Fanfest in 2015, and MOR (My Only Radio) Music Awards.
Through his years of teaching and serving as a faculty member in music schools in both the Philippines and Singapore, Rommel has developed the ability to understand the different needs and learning styles of his students and the best way to support each one in achieving their goals. He believes that every student has a talent in music and he genuinely wants to help and guide students so they can develop their talent into useful and practical drumming skills. With this in mind, he centres his teaching around developing basic, solid drum grooves and fills before showing how to apply these in a musical context. He also has some fun and simple methods for teaching students how to read and write basic drum notation.
Rommel has coached many students through their Grade Exams with great success so, if you’re interested in this route, then look no further! Grade exams, though, are not everyone’s cup of tea and if you’re more keen on learning to play drums as a fun hobby or as a stress-reliever, Rommel will tailor your classes accordingly.
