Michael Pantekoek

Multi-talented Musical Maestro... it's our Michael!

See Michael perform!

Originally from Canada, Michael grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. He began with piano lessons and explored other creative avenues to broaden his horizons and eventually stuck with guitar at 14.

Over several years in Ottawa, Michael played with various musicians and eventually began studying guitar and composition with Kurt Walther (founding member of The Angstones).  He then travelled across Canada with his guitar, eventually enrolling in the music department at the University of Ottawa. There, he studied chamber guitar under guitarist and composer Patrick Roux, who founded the Canadian Guitar Quartet.  Michael’s major was in western orchestral and chamber music theory with Phillip Murray Dineen and Laurie Burns and composition with Steven Gellman.

For nearly two decades, Michael has resided in Hong Kong and has been an active musician and music teacher throughout the territory. He has privately taught students of all levels and has taught music in government school ECA programmes for guitar ensembles, folk song choirs, English through folk song, and general music appreciation courses. He has also undertaken significant post-production audio work for television commercials and corporate video including the composition and production for one of Cartoon Network’s most popular tune-in promos in the Asia-Pacific region.
